Message from the Secretary

Welcome to the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE). DPIE brings together specialists in urban and regional planning, water, environmental protection, energy, Aboriginal outcomes, housing, property, and local government.

Our work is essential to the NSW Government’s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Strategy. We are working hard to get the economy back on track and pulling all the levers we have at our disposal to help the people of New South Wales return to work and get back to seeing friends and family.

DPIE is a network of 10,000 public servants, a diverse group spread right across New South Wales (NSW). We champion the values of kindness, collaboration, creativity, daring and inclusion, and work together to deliver thriving environments, communities, and economies.

Our work is centered on the stewardship of the state’s natural and built environments, and we strive to deliver sustainable solutions and programs that will maximise the long-term wellbeing of our state.

Our vast and varied portfolio is what I love most about the department; our work includes protecting our native flora and fauna, facilitating the transition to a lower carbon emissions future, creating better communities and public open space, improving and securing the state’s water supply, increasing housing affordability, supply and diversity, and improving outcomes for Aboriginal people.
