About the project

Property & Development NSW (PDNSW) commenced a registration of interest (ROI) process at the Intertrade Industrial Park (previously the BHP Steelworks site), located at 99 Selwyn Street, Mayfield NSW 2304 on 28 February 2022.

Registrations of interest were sought to transform the former steelworks site with an innovative new use providing a boost for employment and the local economy.

The site could be used for advanced manufacturing, cleantech and green energy, or be used for defence, earmarking the future of jobs for the region and attracting new investment from domestic and international markets.

The ROI closed 18 March 2022 at 3pm and will be followed by an Expression of Interest (EOI) campaign commencing March 2022. For further details, contact Colliers at Intertrade.NCIndustrial@colliers.com.

What's happened so far?

Property & Development NSW owns the Intertrade site which is strategically located adjacent to Newcastle Harbour in Mayfield and was the former BHP Steelworks site. The site comprises an area of approximately 52 hectares and is largely unimproved, except for some existing structures (some of which have heritage value) and roads and sewerage infrastructure.

The site has been extensively remediated in accordance with a Voluntary Management Plan regulated by the NSW Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) under the Contaminated Land Management Act 1997.

What’s happening next?

The EOI will be open for a period of 6 weeks and will close on 12 May 2022 at 3pm (AEST). Respondents to the EOI will be contacted about a further process, which is likely to involve an RFT process. For further details, contact Colliers at Intertrade.NCIndustrial@colliers.com.
