About Us – Responsible Landfill Management

The Waste Assets Management Corporation (WAMC) is a statutory corporation created under the Waste Recycling and Processing Corporation (Authorised Transaction) Act 2010 (keep embedded link). The agency sits within Property and Development NSW, part of the NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DPE).

WAMC provides specialised rehabilitation and management of closed landfills, is a joint-venture partner in renewable energy business and provides other specialised environmental services.

WAMC’s main operations are focused on closed landfill rehabilitation and ensuring that any potential human health and environmental risks are managed and controlled, and the potential for beneficial reuse of the land is realised as soon as practicable.

WAMC has a highly specialised team of landfill management, monitoring and remediation experts with extensive operational, engineering, environmental and planning expertise gained from decades of service within the public and private sectors.

WAMC is certified to the international standards for both environment and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) management systems (ISO14001:2015 & ISO45001: 2018).

WAMC is committed to reducing the environmental impacts of operational and closed landfills through initiatives such as the efficient collection of landfill gas generating both renewable energy and renewable energy certificates. WAMC facilities currently generate 87,600 megawatt (MW) hours per annum of renewable electricity whilst significantly reducing climate impacting methane gas emissions.

As former landfills require long term monitoring and management, WAMC's responsibilities will extend for several decades into the future.
