Valuer General NSW

The Valuer General is an independent statutory officer, appointed by the Governor of New South Wales to oversee the State's land valuation system.

The independence of the Valuer General:

  • provides clear separation between the determination of land values and their use by the State Government and local councils for rating and taxing
  • ensures the owner is fairly compensated when their land is compulsorily acquired
  • enables focus on accuracy, consistency, transparency and procedural fairness.

The Valuer General reports administratively to the Minister for Water, Property and Environment and the Secretary of the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.
