Two popular community jetties in the Illawarra have been reopened for the summer holiday season following the completion of upgrade projects.
Minister for Planning and Homes Anthony Roberts said the Tuggerah Bay Jetty at Berkeley and the King Street Jetty and boat skid ramp at Warrawong are now operational.
"These facilities are popular with local and visiting boating enthusiasts and fishers, so it was important this work finished prior to Christmas," Mr Roberts said.
"We have invested $2.8 million to repair the King Street Jetty and improve the Warrawong foreshore, including upgrades to the market car park, fencing, and installation of security cameras at Northcliffe Drive."
"Tuggerah Bay Jetty has also undergone an upgrade, including new timber components, ladders, safety deck meshing and jetty edges."
Minister for Lands and Water Kevin Anderson said the NSW Government was investing $4.5 million on Lake Illawarra jetty upgrades and foreshore improvements, with work on the Old Merinda Wharf completed, and further projects proposed for Koonawarra Bay Jetty, Purry Burry Jetty, Dix’s Wharf and Kanahooka Boat Ramp jetties.
"As we head into summer more people will be enjoying time on the water, which is why it is important that we have safe access to our waterways and foreshore areas," Mr Anderson said.
"A significant number of boating accidents happen around jetties so we want to make them as safe as possible so you can enjoy your recreation time on the water."
