Franklyn Street, Glebe

In November 2020 the NSW Government announced a proposal to renew the Franklyn Street social housing estate in Glebe.

The proposed redevelopment includes social housing dwellings in the area bounded by Franklyn Street, Glebe Street, Bay Street and Greek Street, as shown on the map below.

The redevelopment of the Franklyn Street Estate provides the opportunity for more and better social housing as well as new private housing. The site is in a location highly suitable for increased density due to its proximity to shops, services and public transport.

The NSW Land and Housing Corporation is taking the time to look closely at the Franklyn Street Estate and in particular, to consider feedback received from the community and the City of Sydney Council and to determine the best outcome that meets the needs of current and future social housing residents.

There are still a series of steps before redevelopment begins, including planning approvals, which will take a number of years. As a result, no tenants will be relocated from the Franklyn Street Estate before 2025.
