The redevelopment of the Franklyn Street Estate provides the opportunity for more and better social housing as well as new private housing. The site is in a location highly suitable for increased density due to its proximity to shops, services and public transport.
The NSW Land and Housing Corporation is taking the time to look closely at the Franklyn Street Estate and in particular, to consider feedback received from the community and the City of Sydney Council and to determine the best outcome that meets the needs of current and future social housing residents.
There are still a series of steps before redevelopment begins, including planning approvals, which will take a number of years. As a result, no tenants will be relocated from the Franklyn Street Estate before 2025.
