What’s happening

We are redeveloping the Ivanhoe Estate into a vibrant new mixed community called Midtown Mac Park, which will have around 3,300 new homes made up of:

  • 954 social housing units
  • 130 affordable rental units
  • more than 2,000 privately owned units.

The design features:

  • 2.8 ha of open space, including new parks, a skate park and playground
  • a new ‘vertical’ school
  • 2 x 75-place childcare centres
  • a town plaza, new shops, cafes and restaurants
  • a new road connecting Herring Road with Lyonpark Road, including a new bridge over Shrimptons Creek.

Who is involved

We are partnering with the Aspire consortium (Frasers Property Australia and Mission Australia Housing) for the project.

Supporting tenants

Mission Australia is helping social housing tenants connect with education, training and employment opportunities in the area, and transition to housing independence.

Previous tenants who moved to allow the redevelopment of Ivanhoe Estate will have the option to return to the new social housing units if a suitable property is available.

Staging

The redevelopment will be delivered in 8 stages over 12 years.

Stage 1

The first stage of construction began in 2020 and has been completed. This stage features:

  • a 24-storey apartment building – 269 private apartments and a ground-level child care centre
  • 2 connected residential towers (14 and 20 storeys) – 496 apartments (259 social, 130 affordable and 107 private).

Stage 2

Construction began in early 2024 and is due for completion in late 2026.  This stage will see the delivery of:

  • a further 650 homes across 3 apartment buildings and 4 townhouses, including 216 social housing homes
  • a community facility
  • village green and town square.
