Expressions of interest invited for new precinct at Chatswood

Planning

The NSW Government today called on the private sector to submit their interest in purchasing a 14,600m2 parcel of land in Chatswood for the development of new homes, public space and much-needed educational facilities for the community.

Deputy Secretary, Property and Development at the Department of Planning and Environment Leon Walker said the site, located at 607 Pacific Highway Chatswood, is currently being used for the construction of the Sydney Metro City & South-west project, with most of the site no longer required for this purpose from 2024.

“PDNSW is working with Sydney Metro and School Infrastructure NSW (SINSW) to deliver social, economic and sustainable outcomes for the site, including a new government- operated public school for up to 1,000 students,” Mr Walker said.

“A portion of the site will be retained by Sydney Metro, with the majority being revitalised into a new precinct.

“With major road, rail and bus links, the property is within easy reach of Sydney’s CBD, major commercial precincts, health and education hubs and Sydney’s Northern Beaches, making it ideal for a new destination precinct in the heart of Chatswood.

“The successful proponent will create a master plan that demonstrates how the project will support local community needs, including the integration of a new primary school, reuse of the locally heritage-listed Mowbray House building, together with traffic and environmental considerations.”

Mr Walker said the delivery of a new public primary school at the site was essential to cater for the needs of the area’s growing population.

“This is part of the NSW Government’s $8.6 billion investment in school infrastructure over the next four years, building on more than $9.1 billion invested in projects delivered since 2017,” Mr Walker said.

The EOI campaign is being managed by JLL. Responses will be assessed and evaluated and short-listed respondents may be required to respond to a request for tender.

The EOI process will conclude on 15 February 2023. Visit the Expressions of Interest page for more information.
