There are a number of ways we engage and collaborate across government, with research, industry and business to guide our work. Alongside the formal engagement opportunities outlined here, we support capability uplift in the sector.
We deliver this through events, learning sessions, and resources. Find out more about our resources and events.

SmartNSW Advisory Council
The SmartNSW Advisory Council was set up in September 2020 to provide insights to shape delivery of the Smart NSW projects and initiatives.
The SmartNSW Advisory Council includes representatives from:
- industry
- research and academia
- local government
- community/consumer advocacy organisations.
Smart and Local Feedback Forum
The Smart and Local Feedback Forum strengthens connections between the NSW Government and the local government sector, supporting the delivery of smart places.
The Forum gives a voice to local councils to shape and support the delivery of SmartNSW. It is not a decision-making body. It also provides a platform for sharing ideas and learnings between participating local councils.
The local government sector is critical to achieving the SmartNSW vision as they:
- manage and operate public spaces for communities
- deliver services to citizens
- operate and maintain infrastructure
- have intimate knowledge of communities, the local environment and their needs.
Councils stand to benefit from investments in smart technology and using technology and data solutions to:
- improve operational efficiency and service delivery
- enhance citizen engagement
- respond to community needs
- reduce costs associated with managing assets.
Members from a range of positions and grades within councils are welcome to participate. This reflects the diversity of structures and accountabilities across the local government sector.
Feedback forum representatives include:
- representatives from ICT teams
- innovation teams
- data analysts
- infrastructure and asset teams
- public space management teams
- smart city officers
- economic development staff.
The following local council groups are participants in the feedback forum:
- Albury City Council
- Bathurst Regional Council
- Bayside Council
- Blacktown City Council
- City of Canada Bay
- City of Newcastle
- City of Parramatta
