50 Year Vision announced
July 2020: NSW Minister for Planning, Robert Stokes, announces the 50 Year Vision for Sydney’s Open Space and Parklands and the establishment of Greater Sydney Parklands, as an advocate for the Vision
Greater Sydney Parklands established
October 2020: a combined agency is formed to bring together staff and local park management experience from Centennial Parklands, Western Sydney Parklands, Parramatta Park, Callan Park and Fernhill Estate.
Callan Park and Fernhill Estate transferred to Greater Sydney Parklands
December 2020: Callan Park and Fernhill Estate transferred to Greater Sydney Parklands.
Fernhill Estate Plan of Management
January 2021: Fernhill Estate draft Plan of Management released.
New green links at Bungarribee Park, Western Sydney Parklands
March 2021: More than $6 million in major works connecting Western Sydney Parklands to Blacktown International Sports Park completed at Bungarribee Park, Blacktown.
An exciting new era for E.S. Marks Athletics Fields
April 2021: Work commences on a $4.8 million upgrade of E.S. Marks Athletics Field, rejuvenating Australia’s largest community sporting precinct for future generations.
Guriwal Trail Arts and Culture Installation, Centennial Parklands
May 2021: A new Guriwal Trail Arts and Culture Installation was unveiled to the public; featuring interpretive signs and a virtual tour which shares knowledge of native plants and animals and their importance to ancient and continuing Aboriginal culture with park visitors.
Wylde BMX and Mountain Bike Facility construction begins
June 2021: Construction started on the $13.5 million, 86-hectare Wylde BMX and mountain biking hub in Western Sydney Parklands. The project is a partnership between the NSW Government, Greater Sydney Parklands and Liverpool City Council.
Burramatta Trail restored, Parramatta Park
July 2021: First Nations people held an aboriginal cultural planting program to restore Parramatta Park’s Burramatta Landscape Trail, sharing 40,000 years of traditional knowledge and Caring for Country practices with park visitors.
The Ponds Walk opens, Centennial Parklands
July 2021: The Ponds Walk opens to the public to improve pedestrian access between from Alison Road via the Kensington Pond footbridge to the back of the Learner’s Cycleway at Fearnley Grounds. The new trail provides opportunities to engage with the pond network and is part of the Centennial Park Master Plan 2040.
$1 million upgrade for historical sites, Parramatta Park
August 2021: Parramatta Park’s heritage conservation program delivered $1 million worth of important heritage refurbishments ensuring visitors can experience some of Australia’s most historically significant sites well into the future.
From Swamp to Scrub - Centennial Parklands' Science Week program
August 2021: From Swamp to Scrub was Greater Sydney Parklands’ first virtual community event, held during National Science Week. The interactive science-packed adventure through the wetlands of Centennial Park to the woodlands and scrub of Western Sydney Parklands allowed children and teachers to discover some of Australia’s most exciting plants and animals.
Queens Park Pedestrian and Cycle Path Project: constructions begins
August 2021: Construction started on the Queens Park Pedestrian and Cycle Path Project, which will complete a critical missing link in the regional bicycle network from the eastern suburbs to Queens Park, Centennial Park and the Sydney CBD, making walking and cycling safer and more accessible for the community.
