Premier's Priorities

Greening our City

To create a sustainable, liveable and cool Greater Sydney, we need trees and green cover. More trees mean more shade, cleaner air and more beautiful places to live.

The Greening our City Premier’s Priority aims to increase the tree canopy and green cover across Greater Sydney by planting one million trees by 2022. This is part of a broader commitment to plant five million trees by 2030.

"New trees today mean more healthy shaded public spaces and beautiful tree-lined streets for communities to enjoy now and for years to come." Rob Stokes, Minister for Planning and Public Spaces.

Strategic planning policy is critical to achieving positive long-term change in tree canopy cover across Greater Sydney. The new Greener Neighbourhoods program and policy tools and guidance are available for industry, councils and government to use to green our city.

Partnerships play an important role in creating healthier and more resilient communities by making greener places and great public spaces.
