About the program

Since it started in August 2020, the program has received an overwhelming response from residents living in Greater Sydney, with more than 45,000 trees already planted.

These trees have been supplied through partnerships with Bunnings Warehouse and IndigiGrow Nursery.

The giveaway is a fantastic opportunity to add some greenery to your home and help make your local area an even more beautiful place to live.

By planting a tree in your own backyard, you are helping build a greener and more liveable Greater Sydney, creating cooler suburbs for generations to come.

We are encouraging everyone to plant one.

Every tree planted from this giveaway is registered towards the Greening our City Premier’s Priority, which aims to plant one million trees in Greater Sydney by the end of 2022.

We also encourage everyone to plant trees outside of the giveaway.

If you need help caring for your tree(s), or even for selecting new ones to plant, you can:

What if I live outside of Greater Sydney, can I get a free tree?

The giveaway is part of Greening our City NSW Premier’s Priority which aims to plant one million trees in Greater Sydney by 2022. When this program began in 2018, the definition of Greater Sydney extended to the 33 Local Government Areas of Greater Sydney only.

We're aware that residents outside this area would love to participate in the program and we will keep looking for opportunities in the future to support tree planting across NSW.

Thinking of planting more trees?

Join the Everyone Plant One campaign and plant more trees whether it's in your backyard or on your balcony. Because when everyone plants one, it’s better for everyone.
