Free tree giveaway

Households in selected Local Government Areas are eligible for a free tree.

We are pleased to announce that applications have now reopened for the Free Tree Giveaway. Thank you for your patience while we worked with our growers to meet the overwhelming demand for the Giveaway and make more trees available to you.

As a part of the Greening our City Premier's Priority, you can now apply for free tree(s) via the NSW Planning Portal. The Premier’s Priority aims to plant one million trees in Greater Sydney by 2022.

Planting one million trees will provide more shade, cleaner air and more beautiful places to live.

To reach the one million trees target we need individuals like you to play a part and plant trees in your own backyard. The Free Tree Giveaway makes trees from Bunnings available to the first 8,750 households in Greater Sydney to apply. Get in quick to avoid missing out.

Am I eligible?

You are eligible if you answer yes to all of the following:

• you have an address in one of the 33 local government areas (LGAs) in Greater Sydney
• you have not applied for a free tree(s) since 1 July 2020.

How do I ‘Click and Collect’ a free tree(s)?

1. Create a Planning Portal Account or log in with your MyServiceNSW details
2. Once in the Planning Portal you may be taken to a page that says, “Nothing but space.” Click on the blue box with three lines in the top left hand corner of your screen.
3. Click on the + (plus sign) and then ‘Free Tree Application’
4. Complete the form including which tree(s) you wish to claim. Please note the address field must auto-populate; we suggest that you start by typing your street name. If the address doesn’t auto-populate the error message ‘Your property is not eligible for a Free Tree’ will appear. If the address field in the form has auto-populated and you have an eligible address, but still see this error, please email Admin_FreeTrees@dpie.nsw.gov.au
5. Click ‘Submit’. Once submitted you will receive a confirmation email.
6. Wait for Bunnings to let you know your tree(s) are ready to be collected
