Licence embargoes

Find out about restrictions on applying for a Water Act 1912 licence.

Nepean river on a sunny winter day with blue sky, trees and clouds reflecting on glassy water surface.

Embargo orders may prohibit applications for certain types of Water Act 1912 licences in specified areas.

The purpose of these embargoes is to manage demand for water in circumstances where a water source is unlikely to have more water available than is required for existing lawful water users.

Current embargo orders have effect to the extent the licensing framework for the embargoed area is still under the Water Act 1912. For information, go to Water Act 1912.
