Planned Snowy environmental flows superseded by flood mitigation releases

The NSW Department of Planning and Environment has suspended a planned environmental water release from Jindabyne Dam that was scheduled to take place on Monday 14 November 2022, due to flood operations being undertaken by Snowy Hydro.

Snowy Hydro has advised that Jindabyne Dam has reached full supply level. Dam spills and flood mitigation releases are anticipated over the coming weeks.

The flows into the Snowy River will be significantly greater than the environmental releases notified on Snowy Hydro’s website and app, and may change at short notice in response to the weather conditions.

During dam spills or releases by Snowy Hydro, landholders downstream of the Jindabyne Dam are advised to take all necessary precautions with stock, fencing and property in proximity to the river.

As the water flows through the system, people should refrain from entering or crossing swollen waterways.

Snowy Hydro will continue to keep the community informed about management of water in Lake Jindabyne through its website and social media channels.
