A unique social housing revitalisation project has been completed at Lane Cove North in Sydney’s north, delivering a mix of contemporary, new homes in a five-storey building connected to essential community services.
The NSW Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) partnered with the Hyecorp Property Group to renew five existing LAHC properties into 13 new fit-for-purpose social dwellings, integrated in a mixed tenure community of 51 homes.
The social dwellings will be managed by St George Community Housing over the next 20 years, with the remaining 38 properties privately owned.
The project is an example of government partnering with the private sector, to create an uplift in social housing and deliver more keys in doors to support vulnerable members of our community.
In 2017, LAHC sold outdated social housing to the Hyecorp Property Group, which already owned adjoining properties, as part of an agreement to deliver new social housing at no cost to government.
This foresight enabled the housing re-development to happen on a larger scale and deliver win-win outcomes in a productive partnership that leveraged the value of government land.
The new homes are located near the Lane Cove Town Centre, providing access to local shops, restaurants, public schools, parks and bus services to Chatswood, North Sydney and the Sydney CBD.
