Parramatta North hits a six

5 February 2024

Parramatta North will host cricket matches this season with work completed on new turf pitches at The Green, an 8,000 square metre sportsground unveiled in 2023.

Property and Development NSW (PDNSW) has delivered a great community outcome with the rejuvenation of six cricket pitches, which includes three original pitches that were first marked out in 1880.

An additional three pitches have also been laid on the square, and are ready for play, with local women's teams from Parramatta District Cricket Club ready to take advantage of the new amenities for training and regular games.

An emerging Western Sydney destination, the revitalisation of Parramatta North will deliver a diversity of education, research, commercial, cultural, and residential outcomes over the next 30 years.

The Green is located next to the Parramatta Female Factory, which was recently added to Australia's UNESCO World Heritage tentative list, a place with a preserved local character and identity that reflects diverse stories and histories.

This space responds to Parramatta North's history, including the stories from the Burramattagal people of the Dharug Nation, and of other Aboriginal people who have new and enduring connections to this place.

Supporting the diverse communities that make Western Sydney unique, the NSW Government is committed to boosting participation in grassroots sports and the delivery of safe and secure public spaces.

Member for Parramatta Donna Davis said:

"Parramatta is a modern multicultural city and many of our people have a deep passion for cricket, so I am looking forward to seeing these pitches in action as important community assets.

"The entire nation was spellbound by the Matildas last year. It's important we support women's sport at the grassroots to inspire the next generation of female sporting champions."

Property and Development NSW Development Director Simon Babbage said:

"We only last year welcomed this fantastic open space in Parramatta North, and now we are back to welcome new cricket pitches, which is a great outcome in support of this diverse community.

"This is another important step to revitalise Parramatta North, an emerging Western Sydney destination."
