Homes NSW is working closely with the Department of Regional NSW, Crown Lands, NSW Aboriginal Land Council and Merrimans Local Aboriginal Land Council to unlock Crown land for development in Cooma.
Proposals will be sought to develop a mix of social, affordable and private housing to boost the local economy, investment and jobs.
Location
Previously zoned for residential dwellings, the land is between the Monaro Highway and Polo Flat Road and will deliver up to 140 housing lots. The blocks will be developed with a mixture of single dwellings, duplexes, social and affordable homes, and key worker housing.
Next steps
Planning consent has been granted for the masterplan of the North Precinct. Detailed design is currently being undertaken. A civil contractor is yet to be appointed for the construction and earth works. A real estate agent will be appointed to manage the release of land sales and they will set up an onsite office. Homes NSW is committed to keeping the community informed at all phases of project delivery.
Using Crown land to ease housing stress
Homes NSW manages NSW’s 125,000 social housing properties. Crown Lands oversees the state’s Crown land assets (34 million hectares, which is around 42% of NSW). Under our newly signed partnership, we will work together to identify priority areas where there is suitable Crown land for residential development.
Together, we’re working to provide homes for key workers, social housing residents, private purchasers and Aboriginal families.
