Floodplain harvesting measurement

Information for equipment suppliers

Manufacturers and suppliers can find out how to have their compliant metering equipment listed on the department's website.

Floodplain harvesting measurement at Federation Farm.

How to have your equipment listed on our website

The NSW Government supports an open market approach encouraging manufacturers and suppliers to provide equipment that meets the non-urban metering and floodplain harvesting measurement frameworks. The department’s Market Engagement Policy for Metering and Telemetry (PDF, 593.52 KB) outlines how we work with suppliers.

Storage sensors

Suppliers seeking to list a storage sensor on the department’s website must first have it assessed for suitability by Manly Hydraulics Laboratory (MHL). This assessment, conducted at the vendor’s expense, evaluates the sensor against minimum specifications. The Market Engagement Policy for Metering and Telemetry (PDF, 593.52 KB) provides an outline of the assessment process.

To ensure MHL have all the necessary information, the supplier is encouraged to contact MHL at: Assessment-Request@mhl.nsw.gov.au

If you have any questions, please email the department at: water.enquiries@dpie.nsw.gov.au.

Local intelligence device for floodplain harvesting

A local intelligence device (LID) sends data securely from the meter to the NSW Government’s data acquisition service (DAS) and the landholder.

A LID must meet the technical specifications set out in the NSW Data Logging and Telemetry Specifications 2021 (PDF, 1900.85 KB) for purposes of floodplain harvesting. These specifications define the requirements for ensuring satisfactory functionality, data integrity and security for local intelligence devices.

The department maintains a list of local intelligence devices that have been assessed as meeting the Minister’s specifications.

Point-of-take metering

Point-of-intake metering requires a pattern-approved meter installed by a DQP in accordance with AS4747 and an approved LID.
