Floodplain harvesting measurement

Who can install floodplain metering equipment

Duly qualified persons have the necessary qualifications, skills, and experience to install specific metering equipment for floodplain harvesting storage.

Duly qualified persons

Metering equipment used for both floodplain harvesting and non-urban metering water take in NSW must be installed by a duly qualified person. They have the qualifications, skills, and experience to install specific metering equipment.

To find a duly qualified person, visit the Irrigation Australia website or the Metering and Measurement Virtual Marketplace.

Use this table to identify the type of duly qualified person you need to install and validate your equipment.

Expansion of DQP market

Regulatory changes in 2025 have broadened the recognition of DQPs to meet customer demand. Training for other recognised professionals, such as engineers, to support diverse floodplain harvesting measurement tasks is currently in development.

DQP Resources

The DQP Portal

The DQP Portal, a web-based tool hosted by WaterNSW, enables DQPs to:

  • Ensure LIDs are correctly configured and linked to the right work
  • Confirm proper installation of metering equipment for the client
  • Document the ordering, installation, and validation process

For DQP support:

Check telemetry coverage before going out on site

The department has created an online telemetry coverage tool for DQPs and water users to check if a meter site has network coverage. DQPs are encouraged to use this tool before visiting a site to make informed decisions.

The telemetry coverage report is generated by analysing data from the three nearest Telstra towers with 4G NB-IoT or LTE Cat M1 networks.
