What area does the plan cover?

The Namoi Alluvium Water Resource Plan covers groundwater within the alluvial deposits of the upper and lower Namoi River and its major upstream tributaries.

The Namoi Alluvium (GW14) is composed of four sustainable diversion limit resource units (SDL resource units):

  • Lower Namoi Alluvium (GS29)
  • Manilla Alluvium (GS30)
  • Peel Valley Alluvium (GS40),
  • Upper Namoi Alluvium (GS47)

Commonwealth accreditation process

The NSW Government first submitted the Namoi Alluvium Water Resource Plan to the MDBA in April 2020 and resubmitted it with changes in December 2022.

Public exhibition

Public exhibition of the Namoi Alluvium WRP is now closed. Public information sessions were held at Wee Waa, Narrabri, Gunnedah, Werris Creek and Tamworth in June 2019. All submissions have been reviewed by the department.
