Water Treatment Update Seminar

The seminar offers the latest insights into present and upcoming water treatment and quality concerns, along with emerging technologies for drinking water treatment.

About the course

It is essential for all water treatment works operators, supervisors, and water and sewerage managers to understand the current requirements of treatment operations, technology and to regularly update their skills. Under Element 7 of the Framework for Management of Drinking Water Quality (Australian Drinking Water Guidelines), water utilities have an obligation to ensure employee awareness and to provide appropriate training for water treatment works operators, supervisors and managers.

Topics covered

The seminar provides up to date information on current and emerging water treatment and water quality issues and new technologies for the treatment of drinking water.

The seminar is focused on current treatment issues and will involve a site visit, open forum, troubleshooting and workshop sessions and will cover topics such as:

  • Drinking Water Quality Management System.
  • Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
  • Up to date information from recent boil water alerts in NSW.
  • Effective disinfection of a water supply.
  • Iron and manganese removal.
  • Algae and algal toxins.
  • Cryptosporidium and Giardia.
  • The department Circular LWU18 for maintaining security of water distribution systems.

If you would like to include any other topic, please advise us accordingly. However, ample opportunity will be provided to ask water treatment related questions in the open forum session.

Length of course

This is a two-day course.

Who should attend?

Water treatment works operators, supervisors and managers. Councils should ensure that all treatment works operators attend at least one update seminar every five years.

Resulting qualification

A Certificate of Attendance will be issued to all participants.

What is not included?

Writing material, calculator, safety equipment (PPE), accommodation, other meals not specified and transport to and from the course.

The department will send confirmation of receipt of your nomination via email within one week. Venue details, the program and a timetable will be sent to all participants approximately four weeks before the course. Please provide details of any special dietary needs on nomination.
