NSW Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) has partnered with Billbergia to transform a vacant site in West Ryde into a mix of social housing and private homes.
The West Ryde renewal project will help create a vibrant, diverse and integrated neighbourhood.
Billbergia have commenced construction, following planning approval granted in December 2020. Evolve Housing has been engaged by Billbergia as the nominated social housing manager.
The $55M development will include the construction of three residential apartment buildings comprising 150 units including 30 social housing dwellings and 120 private units.
These buildings are:
Building A - Six storeys with 30 social housing units.
Building B – Nine storeys with 57 private housing units.
Building C – Eleven storeys with 63 private housing units.
The three-year construction phase is anticipated to be completed by 2024, creating around 280 jobs over the life of the project.
Located within 300m of West Ryde train station, the new buildings with higher density living options for social and private housing, will range in height from between six to eleven storeys and will provide a vibrant look to the West Ryde town centre precinct.
Featuring open spaces with landscaping between each of the buildings, a rooftop terrace and revitalised streetscapes, the buildings will be environmentally sustainable with water recycling features and energy saving solar panels. All apartments will have step-free access to assist people with mobility restrictions and will share a three-level basement car park.
In line with the NSW Government’s Future Directions for Social Housing plan, this project highlights the NSW Government’s continued commitment to deliver well designed, fit-for purpose homes integrated within the community to create greater diversity and help strengthen support for social housing residents.
