Housing for women in need

Recently completed LAHC project in Peakhurst

We are partnering with the Women’s Housing Company to deliver 106 and manage new homes for women who are experiencing or facing homelessness.

Why are homes needed for older women?

Single women over the age of 55 are one of the fastest-growing groups seeking housing help in NSW.

Common factors that place older women at risk of homelessness include:

  • domestic violence
  • separation
  • death of a spouse or partner
  • retirement or loss of employment
  • sudden illness or injury.

Designed for residents

We are building women’s social housing units in areas with easy access to buses and/or trains – as not everybody who needs our assistance has a car. It’s also important that residents can easily get to shops, medical centres and other facilities.

The units have been specifically designed for older single women who would benefit from living in a supportive, communal environment.

They feature:

  • a common room and landscaped areas to allow residents to connect and share time together
  • step-free access to ground-floor apartments
  • adaptable apartments for wheelchair users
  • a design that seeks to eliminate trip hazards.
